I endeavor to impart the knowledge of Ancient Runes to young witches and wizards at said school.
Recently returned to Hogwarts after a 2 year sabbatical in the Americas during which I conducted research on Runes and Dark Magic in the New World.
Author of the seminal book on Ancient Runes, "Interpreting Runes, The Alphabet of Magic and Mystery".
I am only doing this because the Headmaster would not quit pestering me about my journal.

Eli nor is neither very ugly nor very beautiful, but just average with red hair, freckles and brown eyes. Her hair is thick and shoulder length and will never stay up with out a charm.

Family:
Elinor is the eldest of 4 children (not the beautiful one nor the powerful one, or the dark one, just the average one) born to Auley and Katherin Connell. The Connell’s are an Irish pureblood family with a history of dark and flamboyant witches and wizards. Her parents while not followers of the “Dark Lord” were never the less privately proud of their dark son’s service to Him-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, even if it did leave them with one less child
Her talent with Runes is a gift passed down on her mother’s side ever since the union between a raiding Viking wizard and Irish witch taken as a slave back to his home. The witch eventually dispatched her captor and retuned to Ireland with her 4 children, a new power, and his knowledge of Runes. Since then the gift has come from mother to eldest daughter.
Though her parents are proud of her gift, they do wish she had more flair and would live up to her bloodlines instead of being so…. average.
Education:
Elinor made her set of runes at the age of 12 from the bones of a wizard ancestor and, well…her own blood.
As all the children in her family Elinor was educated at home by her parents until her letter from Hogwarts was received. Her parents were very pleased to see her sorted into Slytherin considering how ordinary she is.
She was an average student at Hogwarts, but excelled in ancient runes, charms, and to a lesser degree potions. The library is her favorite spot in Hogwarts, not including her chambers, which are a sanctuary. Her NEWTs were quite impressive and for once Elinor was not so ordinary.
Considers riding on a broomstick to be a lovely way to while away an hour, but not to play Quidditch. The rest of the wizarding world’s fascination with said sport has passed her by.

Elinor is recently returned from a sabbatical conducting research in North/South America on Runes and the Dark Arts to teach at Hogwarts.
Not one of the "experts" in her field, but a well-known researcher.
Has written a few well-received books on the subject of Ancient Runes.
She is a capable witch but her talent lies in Runes…..they sing to her. Her other love is research and the library her favorite place. To lose oneself in a tough reading is for her bliss.
Can be a tad bit too proud of her achievements and does think that others in her field are always out to "get her" by endeavoring to disprove her theories.

Elinor speaks before she thinks and has been known to use language unbecoming a lady.
Married, but separated from Octavius Rabins, a Pureblood, but ineffectual Wizard. Elinor felt he was "holding her back and not her intellectual equal", murder not being an option, she left him. Her parents are not happy with this decision, which explains the lack of communication.
While conducting research in Greenland she happened upon a set of runes suffice with dark magic, of ancient age and unknown maker; assuadly magical, not muggle. Normally cautious in her dealings with obviously dark objects the thrill of discovery left her foolhardy. Elinor felt them call to her and she answered, unfortunately, since that time she has begun to lose her mind.
At the beginning of term her delusions had been erratic, causing strange and bizarre behavior in the normally calm and ordinary witch. Her delusions included a secret mission for Dumeldore and the Ministry, a past affair with (poor man) Snape, play acting as a dizzy witch, and being charged with the protection of Hogwarts.
Her madness has progressed to the point where Elinor has now split into 2 distinct personalities.
Elinor , slightly befuddled at times and desperate for anyone to discover her secret.
Brunhilde, a call back to her Viking ancestors.
Elinor and Brunhilde have made a pact. Elinor is allowed to continue her work and research (she is so worried about her professional reputation) as long as Elinor refrains from telling anyone about her other half.
For her part Brunhilde is now allowed to walk the castle at night as her true Valkeryie self searching the castle for those who may one day accompany her to Valhalla. Odin needs many brave warriors for the oncoming battle of Ragnarok.
She is also searching for Seigfried her lost love.

Elinor is neither average nor ordinary anymore.
